Even though he finished third in Sunday’s racing at the Virginia International Raceway, he went to the top of the SuperStock standings.
Decouto, who was riding his Cycle Care Racing’s Suzuki GSXR 1000 had four podium finishes in five races.
The Cycle Care rider was also first in the Expert Formula 40 Class, second in the Expert Unlimited Superbike Class, Third in the Expert GTO Class.
He almost had a day of all podium finishes but crashed on the third lap of the Expert Unlimited GP Class and was not able to finish that race.
His third-place finish in the SuperStock Class moved him past former leader Eric Helmbach and leaves him tied for first with Timothy Bemisderfer from Greencastle Pennsylvania.
Decouto qualified second for the race behind John Palmer.
Decouto told the Bermuda Sun: “The weekend went well and I am pleased with my results.
“It was hot and sunny, making for some great racing. There were lots of very fast, talented riders in attendance, and even a few AMA Professional racers.
“My main focus was on doing well in the National Series, ASRA Pro Superstock race, which is sanctioned by the AMA.”
He said his best battle of the weekend was in the Expert Formula 40 race. “I went toe-to-toe with Expert racer, David Loikits. He is a super fast rider and is the current CCS Expert Formula 40 National Champion.
“Loikits managed a commanding lead right from the start of the seven lap race. I slowly reeled him in for a pass in turn one on the final lap. I maintained the lead and was able to put a couple of lapped riders in between him and I to take the win. Decouto’s next race, which will be the fourth despite the eight race series, will be the CCS Festival of Speed at Road America Raceway in Elkhart Lakes Wisconsin, on July 6-7.
