Seasonal, fresh ingredients are the new focus of the Ocean Club at the Fairmont Southampton.
The restaurant, formerly known as Whaler Inn has a new, revamped menu — focused on seafood and a more casual style as a reflection.
Two separate menus are now on offer, along with a bar menu and three happy hours on the terrace.
Steven Stefaniuk, director of operations for the resort said: “In 2012, Ocean Club transitioned from being an Asian-fusion restaurant, to a more relaxed all-day-dining seafood spot.
“This year, we have refined our menu even further to focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients with a distinct menus for lunch and dinner.
“The Ocean Club’s chef, Sanjay Leeme, works with local fishermen to offer the freshest catch, and it is served in the most spectacular seaside setting.”
Relaxed
He continued: “Following the success of The Dock at The Waterlot Inn, which opened summer 2012, the Ocean Club has added a second, relaxed offering, the Ocean Club Terrace Bar.”
Stunning
He said it serves up light bites and a summer-inspired cocktail list made with freshly squeezed juices, with “stunning ocean views” from the Terrace Bar.
“This summer, the Terrace Bar hosts three weekly happy hours with live entertainment on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3pm to 6pm.
Asked why locals should try the new menu, Mr Stefaniuk said: “This restaurant is a hidden gem, tucked away on the Fairmont Beach Club.” n
“Lots of locals haven’t visited since the Whaler Inn days, and we hope that they are pleasantly surprised by the food.
“The views of the South Shore water are gorgeous and the comfortable, stylish furnishings out on the Terrace Bar are a great spot to grab a drink outside of town.
“Our hotel guests have loved the new concept, and we are hoping that more locals will visit to try out the food.”
Asked what the reasons were for the changes, Mr Stefaniuk said: “Last year, we had an all-day menu, whereas this year we have refined our offerings to focus on a distinct lunch offering and dinner offering, plus the light bites at the Terrace Bar.
“This gives our guests more options to choose from. Lunch focuses on lighter fare — salads, sandwiches, and a selection of Bermuda fish specials.
“Dinner is all about simply prepared, fresh food where you can pick from your favourite accompaniments to make the perfect dish.”
“For lunch, we recommend Chef Sanjay’s classic Bermuda fish sandwich, made with the catch of the day.
“For something a bit lighter, the heirloom tomato salad is delicious — it’s marinated tomatoes served with herb-crusted goat’s cheese, avocado, and balsamic dressing.”
He continued: “For dinner, the Wahoo ceviche is incredibly popular as a starter — local wahoo marinated in lime juice, with a tomato, jalapeno, cucumber and jicama salad.
“It’s refreshing and a light way to start a meal.
“For dinner, there is a selection of local fishes – you can choose your own sauce to accompany it, like the melon & cucumber salsa.
“The sides are ordered family-style to share, but we particularly like the hush puppies – delicious cornmeal fritters, drizzled with honey fresh from the hives on-property.”
Some of the items at the Terrace Bar include fish tacos, hummus and tabouleh mezze tasting and mini seafood pots with shrimp, lobster or crab.
Mr Stefaniuk said the cocktail list is primarily served with freshly squeezed juices, like the KeKe Martini, a heady rum cocktail mixed with fresh cantaloupe juice.
