Job hunters are willing to go to sea for work

Scores of job hunters have been given a flavour of what working on board a cruise ship is like as part of an employment initiative.

Around 70 islanders turned up to the Bermuda College event to speak to Norwegian Cruise Lines bosses about employment prospects.

The programme is designed to help Bermudians find jobs on board Norwegian’s cruise fleet.

And it came about as a result of the partnership between Government and the cruise giant.

Yesterday NCL’s Christian Weindorf, Recruitment Manager and Collin Hudson, Corporate Executive Chef, were on hand to field questions from participants.

And Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy urged those present to grasp the opportunity.

He added: “Norwegian Cruise Lines is our longest serving cruise partner, and they have been coming to Bermuda for many years.

“What you will hear today is that there are hundreds of job opportunities available with this internationally recognised and respected organization. 

“You will also hear that the work will be hard and the hours will be long. “But traditionally, Bermudians are known for their strong and dedicated work ethic and I am certain that this experience will be highly rewarding for those of you who are successful in securing employment with NCL. 

“I am of the view that we are the quintessential ambassadors when it comes to hospitality, and I have no doubt that should you be successful you will represent our Island with pride.”
