Nahki Wells targeted 30 goals this season — and shrugged off Peterborough’s recent offer as being a “sideways” move.

The Bradford City striker, who scored 26 goals in Bradford City’s promotion season to League One last campaign, has been finding the net again in pre-season amid constant rumours about his future and reported interest from Championship clubs.

The likes of Burnley, Huddersfield and Bournemouth are all reportedly monitoring the 23-year-old, although the Posh’s bid — thought to be six figures – was the first to be made public.

City immediately turned it down without consulting Wells, who insists he’s not letting all the speculation distract him.

He told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus: “I take it with a pinch of salt but most of the rumours are incorrect. It just means you’re doing something well if you attract interest.

“The manager spoke to me about the Peterborough issue. In a way, I didn’t like that it reached the press before I actually knew.

“But however the situation panned out, it didn’t really bother me. I just got on with it and I’m not too focused on moving sideways.

“I’m a contracted player at Bradford City and the moment I take my eye off the prize of the first game on August 3, then I’m letting my team down.”

Wells, in Ireland currently on pre-season tour with the Bantams, says he is focused only on topping his goal tally from last season and has set his sights on 30.

He said: “Last season was a high standard but I always try and look to repeat what I’ve done before. I’m still young and want to keep growing as a player.

“I set the target for 25 last season and reached that, so I’m definitely going for 30 this year.

“Anything’s possible. I’ve got off to a good start and, knock on wood, I’m injury free. I see no reason why I can’t reach 30.”
