Maxilous Salon has expanded its services by offering nail treatments.

The salon has been open for the past two years and is owned by Maxine Simms-Famous and her husband Chris.

Maxilous is located on Friswell’s Road next to the Devonshire Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Mr Famous, a Bermuda Sun columnist, explained his wife is a veteran in the industry.

“Maxine has been perfecting the profession of hairstyling and cosmetology for over 20 years in her native Port Antonio, Jamaica.

“Having applied herself to over 20 courses in colouring cutting and weaving, she has attained her City and Guilds certification in hairstyling and hair care.

“Upon moving to Bermuda in 2010, she took the natural leap and opened Maxilous Salon at its present day location.”

Mrs Simms-Famous added: “Shortly after we started, I spoke to my husband about getting a nail tech. But we were having issues with immigration.”

After finally getting those issues sorted out, she was able to bring someone on board recently.

Mrs Simms-Famous said the reaction has been fantastic.

“It’s going very well. It’s very busy. We’ve offered as an introduction, a special and it just took off.

“Most people that come in love the atmosphere, the ambiance — it’s not like a typical salon that you walk into.

“They also like the one-on-one service. We try to keep appointments to one person at a time. Our customers like that.”

Mrs Simms-Famous is a hair stylist along with Kim (Sutherland), who specialises in braiding.

She said one advantage her business has is free parking and plenty of it for its customers.

“Our selling points are our parking... Unlike going to town, you don’t have to worry about parking.

“Of course, we have excellent service. We try to do our best. Basically, quality service, the product, our parking space, we offer free wiFi, snacks and refreshments.”

Mr Famous added: “Kim Sutherland has brought a new dimension to the art of hair braiding with her geometrically astounding designs that are unmatched for precision and perfection.

“So with the addition of the nail services, we now offer a near one-stop shop for women’s hair and nail services.

“Our motto is ‘come and be pampered in comfort and style’.”

Maxilous is offering a Cup Match Special with relaxers for $50 including shampoo and blow dry, $45 pedicures and $65 for acrylic full sets.

For more information, call 595-3395 or 293-5787. The salon is open from 8am to 8pm every day.
