Peterborough United have confirmed they had a bid for Bradford City striker Nahki Wells turned down.
The Bermuda front man, the Bantams’ top scorer with 26 goals in their promotion season, has been the subject of increased transfer speculation this summer, with Leeds United, Huddersfield and Burnley said to be interested.
However, the Posh’s bid — made two weeks ago — is the first that has been made public, with their chairman Darragh MacAnthony tweeting: “We bid for him but turned down so no chance I am afraid.”
Wells told the Bermuda Sun before he headed back to Yorkshire for pre-season training that he would find it hard to turn down a move that would further his career, although a switch to Peterborough, also in League One, is unlikely to match his ambition.
City have maintained they want to keep the 23-year-old, unless a ‘silly’ bid is made that would allow them to bring in a suitable replacement.
