The Hon. Trevor Moniz J.P., M.P., Minister of Public Works today said the Heritage Wharf is now fully operational for the cruise ships of Norwegian Cruise Lines (NCL).

Minister Moniz said: “I am very pleased to report that Heritage Wharf is now fully operational for the remainder of this cruise season. While work on a southern mooring dolphin to bring the Wharf up to the required long term strength and capacity to secure cruise ships in 45 knots of wind will be undertaken after the end of this season, the current operational capacity of the wharf is acceptable to NCL who were consulted at all stages of the works that have been undertaken.”

With the substantial piling work now finished, the cranes and overseas equipment used to ensure the project was completed to schedule were shipped out on June 25th, 2013. The final concrete was finished on the northern mooring dolphin on July 8th, 2013 and this structure will be made available for the use of cruise ships once the concrete gains strength.  This is expected to be achieved over the next seven to ten days and during this time bollards and fixings will be placed on the structure and the forms stripped.  Completion of the concreting works to the northern mooring dolphin is being undertaken using all local employees and equipment.

Further works will be undertaken to install operational and safety equipment through this summer. Interim maintenance works will also be undertaken to Kings Wharf.

Minister Moniz said: “Everyone involved in this project is to be commended for their dedication, professionalism and determination to see the work was carried out as quickly and safely as possible and to ensure minimal disruption to our visiting cruise ships. On behalf of everyone in Bermuda and our visiting cruise ship partners and passengers, let me offer my thanks for a job well done.”
