Man behind bars for punching woman

A 22-year-old man who punched his pregnant girlfriend in the mouth while she was feeding their child was today remanded into custody.

Keino Lambert of Sandys was having a conversation with Shatequa Trott at 1am on July 2 in the home they share.  Ms Trott was breastfeeding their 10-month-old son at the time.

During the argument, Lambert slapped her twice across her face.

He then said: “I don’t like liars” and punched her in the mouth, causing her to bleed.

Ms Trott left the house and went to a neighbour’s home to call the police. She stayed there until the officers arrived.

Lambert was arrested and admitted having an argument with Trott.

The court heard the defendant is on bail for a grievous bodily harm offence and has previous convictions for violence.

Lambert tried to apologise for his actions but Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner said: “The fact of the matter is that you have a history of violence.

“You’re on bail for GBH and now you have gone and allegedly beat up the girlfriend. 

“You have got a real problem it would seem with anger management.

“Because of your propensity to violence, it’s likely that it will happen again if you are granted bail.”

A women identifying herself as Lambert’s grandmother stood up and told the court he has a problem with drinking and when he drinks, he has anger problems.

She also said he was the victim of a shooting and can’t get a job as a result.

Mr Warner remanded Lambert into custody until August 14 and ordered presentencing reports.
