Young guns impress

Bermuda's young guns drew praise from its skipper.

Both captain David Hemp and vice-captain Stephen Outerbridge said even though Bermuda lost the four-day match to Uganda, there were positives to be taken from it and there are things to be learned from Monday's contest.

Hemp said Monday's match would allow the opportunity to look at the young players in different positions and see how they react to the new situation.

"The majority of the side has changed since the qualifiers that went to South Africa, we have some different positions to fill. It gives us a good chance to chop and change and put a few players in new positions. From that point of view we obviously want to get a win - that goes without saying - but we also want the chance to see a few people playing in different positions."

Here the two leaders give their take on how some of Bermuda's young players fared.

Terryn Fray

Hemp: "We didn't see much of Terryn unfortunately because he couldn't get a score, but the experience will be very beneficial for him."

Outerbridge: "He was in his first international so just give him some time he'll do. He knows he has some things to work on to be successful, but I'm sure if he puts in the hard work, he'll get there."

Malachi Jones

Hemp: "It was nice to see Malachi Jones back on the side. He hasn't been playing for a couple of years and he came back in and bowled well."

Outerbridge: "In coming back from schooling to return to the international stage he bowled really well; he bowled quick. He got the ball to move. I thought he was really unlucky not to get more wickets."

Kevon Fubler

Hemp: "He got three wickets in the first innings, then his back seized up so it was very difficult for him to contribute with the ball going forward after that. With the bat he showed some very good applications."

Outerbridge: "He showed a good mental capacity to perform on the international stage."

Rodney Trott

Outerbridge: "I thought Rodney Trott stepped it up with Sluggo gone. He bowled exceptionally well."

David Lovell

Hemp: "He made his debut. In the second innings with the bat he showed good application and determination, which was nice to see. Unfortunately he didn't get a chance to bowl all that much."
