TUESDAY, JUNE 12: KPMG is helping support a training programme for people interested in working with young people affected by diabetes.

A three-day workshop will facilitate the development of innovative programmes to address obesity in Bermuda as well as helping those with Type 1 diabetes manage their condition for long-term health benefits.

Neil Patterson, managing partner of KPMG in Bermuda, said: “As part of our continued commitment to the community, KPMG is delighted to underwrite the costs of this important initiative.

“The work of the Bermuda Diabetes Association and the BHB Diabetes Centre is critical to the wellness of our island and especially our youth. We encourage stakeholders to support the Youth Empowerment Programme and be part of development of future initiatives to help our young people that are affected by obesity and diabetes in Bermuda.”

Dr Annabel Fountain, the Bermuda Hospital Board’s director of endocrinology and deputy chair of the Bermuda Diabetes Association, said: “This workshop aims to bring together adults who are interested in young people affected by diabetes. By creating a diverse team of healthcare professionals, parents, educators and the general public we hope to develop a sustainable strategy for future projects and programmes supporting Bermuda’s youth.”

The workshop is being held June 20 to 22 from 4pm to 8pm at Mid Atlantic Wellness Institute (the location of BHB Diabetes Centre).
