Sources close to the PLP leader say she has been invited to the royal wedding of Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29.
Ms Cox’s spokeswoman, Beverle Lottimore, would not confirm or deny this yesterday — but the Bermuda Sun understands the Premier has received one of the coveted envelopes.
Ms Lottimore said: “Given etiquette and protocol it would be considered unseemly to confirm or deny at this time.”
David Arkley, acting Governor, said: “No one from Government House has received an invitation to the royal wedding.
“As for others in Bermuda, I am afraid it would not be appropriate for me to divulge such information — it would be up to individuals to decide whether to announce if they have been invited to the wedding.”
Up to 1,900 guests have been invited to the ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Friday, April 29, at 11am, as the future British king marries his long-term love.
Up to 50 members of the Royal Family will attend and half of the guests are to be friends of the couple.
Queen Elizabeth has invited 40 crowned heads of state from across the world.
Up to 200 members of the UK Government, Parliament and diplomatic corps are also on the guest list, along with 60 governors-general and Commonwealth prime ministers.
Another 80 guests will represent charities and organizations of which Prince William is a patron.
The gold-embossed invitations were posted in February but guests’ names have not been released.
The invitations bear the Queen’s Royal seal and ask attendees to dress in “uniform, morning coat or lounge suit”.
After the ceremony, 600 guests will attend breakfast at Buckingham Palace.
