WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31: Who will be number one in the world?
It’s all to be decided over the next few weeks as the top six cricket nations will be playing each other in Tests and One-day Internationals.
Everyone will be fighting for the number one spot as the best teams and the best players in the world play each other.
England plays India, Australia plays South Africa, New Zealand plays Sri Lanka. It’s pretty tight at the top and any one of them could be number one when it’s done.
Australia has a slight advantage to end the year number one because they are playing at home, but South Africa is used to playing on pitches that are similar — fast and bouncy.
This isn’t a major adjustment for South Africa and they do have the best team.
Australia is fighting back and they have had some good results lately and are looking to become number one again.
South Africa and Australia do feature the two best fast-bowling attacks. South Africa have the edge here, but it should be a great match for cricket match.
There was sad news this week as Sachin Tendulkar was talking about retirement.
Sachin said he’s going to take it series by series. The Test against England could be his last.
He’s my idol – I call him the ‘The god of Cricket’.
He’s the greatest batsman to ever play the game. He’s set records in all three formats of the game.
People will remember the way he played the game and the spirit he played it in.
He had to play under a lot of pressure with India having a billion people, and there’s a certain amount of pressure on him every single time he goes to the wicket.
To have that pressure on him year after year for 20 years and still stay on top of your game is magnificent.
He was just mentally tough and he didn’t change his game throughout the years.
When you play for a short time it’s easy, but when you play for 20 years and you can play the same way, it means they didn’t figure you out.
Even with all his individual records he set, his three greatest moments came from India’s success.
When India won the World Cup; when they became number one in the world and when they won the Twenty20 World Cup also.
But I also can’t forget that he’s scored 100 international centuries. I don’t think anyone else will every do that again in history.
Virat Kohli is the best player poised to replace Sachin for India — although you really can’t replace a player of his calibre.
