Who will make the play of the game at Cup Match?
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 1: Lionel Cann was last year’s Safe Hands Award winner at Cup Match, but can he repeat?
So far only Janeiro Tucker, Chris Foggo and Dwayne ‘Sluggo’ Leverock are the only two-time winners of the award.
Organizer Rolfe Commissiong, said: “Lionel Cann was able to grab the brass ring after being close a couple of times over the course of the previous years.
“What is really great is how the fans have really embraced it and really get into the spirit. Especially if the game is petering out to a draw, then the importance of the Safe Hands Award is magnified even more and that has been great to see.”
This year’s winner will get the Calvin ‘Bummy’ Symonds Cup. It can be argued that Symonds was the best fielder in the history of Cup Match as he took 24 catches, the third most in the Classic.
The winner will also get a $1,000 cash prize, two round trip tickets to any of the gateway cities and a playing kit sponsored by the Symonds’ family.
Cup Match legend Dennis Wainwright will be one of the judges to help decide who the Safe Hands winner is. Bermuda Health Care Services and the Brown-Darrell Clinic have come back on board to help sponsor the award.
