Who is Bermuda's Male Athlete of the Year?

It was another year of outstanding performances by Bermuda's male athletes in 2009. Here Don Burgess presents 10 of the best.

You can vote for them three ways: ­1) Online at the Bermuda Sun website at www.bermudasun.bm in the Sports section; 2) On Facebook at the Bermuda Sun fan page (just search for the Sun); or 3) send an e-mail to Don Burgess at [email protected]. You can vote one time at each location.

Voting will be from until midnight Tuesday night. We'll announce the winner in January along with our Female and Youth Personalities of the Year.

Raymond Beach

Football

Beach, a striker for Dandy Town, was selected as the Bermuda Football Association's Most Valuable Player of the Year.

Beach had 16 goals and helped Town win the Dudley Eve Trophy.

Tyler Butterfield

Triathlon

Butterfield had a string of podium finishes as he gears up for a run for the 2012 Games.

He was second at the Long Course Triathlon In Colorado, third place at the Monaco Triathlon, and fourth at the Cozumel Ironman.

Roy Burch

Swimming

He returned home and shattered the 50 and 100 free records ­becoming the first Bermudian to break the 23 second barrier in the 50 free.

He then trumped these accomplishments with the two dazzling swims in the 50 and 100 free at the World Championships in Rome.

Tom Healy

Rugby

Healy, a player for Renegades, was the only man selected from Bermuda to the West Indies side for the Hong Kong 7s Tournament in March.

He has previously represented the West Indies at the San Diego 7's and Trinidad 7's, but to play in the Hong Kong 7's definitely tops the lot.

David Hemp

Cricket

Hemp won three Man of the Match awards as Bermuda bombed out of the World Cup Qualifiers.

He averaged 186 runs in his seven innings.

He set a Bermuda ODI record with his 170 not out.

He played with supreme focus and determination scoring three unbeaten centuries and carrying his bat through the innings four times.

Jesse Kirkland

Sailing

Kirkland, mounting an Olympic campaign with his brother Zander, helped St. Mary's College (California) win the Collegiate National Sailing Championship. Kirkland was selected to be a part of a team of six U.S. college sailors who took on their British counterparts in June of last year and was selected as a collegiate All-American.

Gavin Manders

Tennis

Manders had a dream season by going undefeated in singles and won three majors.

He also made ­history by becoming the first Bermuda player to win all of his Davis Cup singles matches. Manders' performance helped the island advance to the next level of the Davis Cup competition.

Patrick Nisbett

Equestrian

One of Bermuda's few Elite A athletes, the show jumper competed all over ­Europe in highly competitive meets and had several top 20 finishes. One of the island legitimate contenders to qualify for the 2012 Olympics.

Tyrone Smith

Track and Field

Finished 31st out of 44 in the long jump at the World Championships. After his self-admitted disappointing performance, Smith had ­renewed purpose had three top-10 finishes, including a third in Italy. Was selected the BTFA's Male Athlete of the Year.

Robert Vallis

Golf

Always one of Bermuda's top golfers, Vallis put the exclamation point on his career by winning the 41st annual British Senior Open Amateur Championship. Vallis shot a three-day total of 224 to win by two strokes at Prestwick Golf Club.
