When has the PLP ever tried to divide the black vote?

By Christopher Famous- | Comments: 0 | Leave a comment

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 7: They say PLP voters use emotions whilst OBA voters use logic.

Recently OBA Leader, Craig Cannonier, in a televised newscast, displayed an emotional outburst — accusing the PLP of lying and using race.

Okay, nothing new from the OBA. They always say the PLP uses race to divide.  Let us examine something.

The OBA command 90-95% of the white vote and needs 25% of the black vote in order to win.

So by simple maths, they have to divide the black vote, correct?

Claims

Now let’s examine their claims.

Does the PLP attempt to divide the white vote? Does the PLP attempt to divide the black vote? Which use of the race card would the OBA be referring to?

Let us look at some of the words of Mr. Cannonier from November, 2011:

“Despite what many people want to believe, history shows that racism has been responsible for more sickness, death, poverty and crime than any other single injustice.”

“The legacy of racism is the root cause of many of the social ills and the dysfunction we are grappling with today, and unless this is understood we cannot move forward together.”

“Others seeking a platform in our country have been genuinely ignorant about the way white supremacy has imposed injustice and how it still works to maintain the status quo. I am not such a one, for he who feels it knows it”

“There have been many who have tiptoed around the issue of race in the political arena and it has hurt their public credibility and, I’m sure, the integrity of their souls. I cannot follow that route.”

Now let’s see. He acknowledges that white supremacy and racism exist and he will not tiptoe around the issue.

I have written Mr Cannonier and the OBA several letters on racism and the totally disrespectful remarks by their cyber supporters in the RG and on Bernews. You know the ones — they call PLP supporters ‘Sheep’, ‘KoolAid Drinkers’ and ‘Blind loyalists’.

At one point, OBA Executive Karen Magnum did state racism was an OBA priority. But then Senator Dunkley is on record stating that those were Craig’s own experiences and opinions.

I have yet to see Craig Cannoinier go on television and get emotionally upset about what is written on those blogs.

Nor did I see him get upset when OBA supporters put BIU President Chris Furbert’s face on a KFC bucket at the Non-Mariner’s Race and put their foot up to his face.

So is his emotional ranting reserved for when the PLP points out the obvious?

I have met many OBA supporters, both black and white, so I do not wish to paint the picture that the OBA is racist. However, I will point out that Mr. Cannonier and the OBA cannot afford to openly discuss racism and white supremacy.

Transparency

Again I ask, please point out where the PLP has attempted to divide the black vote?

“We need a transparent commitment for equality. We need to tell the truth” — Craig Cannonier.

Mr Cannonier cannot  tell the truth and  repeat his very own words, “racism is responsible for  poverty and crime”.

It would literally sink the OBA to have their own leader remind us that white supremacy imposes injustice and maintains the “Status quo”.

Instead, he points his fingers at the victims of racism and white supremacy as the culprits.

It is very transparent that for fear of losing his political base and financial support, Mr Cannonier has no option but to tip-toe. So much for that credibility you spoke of, Cousin.
