West takes three all-star titles
Bermuda’s young footballers were highlighted on Saturday and those that braved the chilly elements were rewarded with five exciting encounters.
Primary boys
The Primary School Boys set the tone for the rest of the day with the West winning an enjoyable match 3-1 over their east counterparts. Rahzir Jones scored two goals in the West win.
The West Pembroke student also provided Paget Primary’s Enrique Russell with a perfectly weighted pass which sent Russell clear on goal to seal the match late in the game. The East started the match with much promise and took the lead early through Chermal Henry of Harrington Sound.
East MVP goalkeeper Andrew Kempe of Somersfield Academy was particularly sharp and only the sharp shooting MVP Jones was able to break though.
Middle school girls
The East was edged by the West 2-1 in a tight battle for the middle school girls match.
The East took an early lead through young Jahziah Samuels of Whitney and Clearwater's Jasmine Spence.
Saltus’ Kennesha Nannette pulled one back at the stroke of fulltime with a long range effort which left the East keeper with no chance. Last week’s cup final star K’Shaela Burch Waldron of Whitney was MVP for the east while T.N.Tatem’s Dominique Ford Eve claimed the prize for the West.
Middle school boys
East MVP Jama Lottimore from Whitney scored two while Clearwater’s Kervin Moreno scored one as the East won 3-1 in the middle school boys match.
The Bermuda Institute’s Isaiah Robinson pulled one back for the West but it wasn’t enough.
West MVP Amar Lewis from Warwick Academy was impressive as well.
Senior school girls
BHS’ Akeyla Furbert’s 20 yard blast gave the West an early lead in the senior school girls match.
MVP Furbert along with Warwick Academy’s Khyla Brangman controlled the match in the midfield for the West. Brangman’s late goal ensured the west would retain the trophy with a 2-0 win. Saltus’ Kacee Morton-Simons tireless defending earned her the MVP title for the East.
Senior school boys
The West continued its winning ways with another 2-0 shut out in the senior boys match.
Substitute Joshua DeSilva gave the West the lead with a long range effort that skipped past the stretched East goalkeeper.
MVP Lejaun Simmons from Berkeley sealed the match late in the second half. Saltus’ Rakeem Deshields earned the MVP award for the east. n
