The West won both of the youth All-star cricket matches on Saturday at the National Sports Centre.
In the BF&M Under-17 contest, the West won by 78 runs as it amassed 151 runs for five in its allotted 20 overs. Naquon Smith was selected for the Play of the Game for his fine catch at fine leg. The MVP was Chikosi Basen who was 94 not out and took two wickets.
Reginald Pearman, president of the Bermuda Cricket Board said: “I was pleased to note such a strong turnout at this year’s U-17 game. I hope to see many of these players work hard to progress to our national U-19 programme.”
The BSG Under-17 match, the West prevailed but just by 18 runs. The West managed to get to 115 for three in 20 overs while the East replied with 97 for nine. The Play of the Game happened when Antonio Darrell took a great catch at long on. Ayinde DeSilva was the MVP in claiming four wickets for 13 runs in four overs and for a great catch at backward square leg.
Pearman said: “I am extremely pleased to see how far the BCB Leagues have grown and it is exciting to note that we are starting to see senior players who played in the the BSG 14 & Under League — such as Joshua Gilbert — come through the programme.” n
