Welcome to the slaughterhouse

There was no Freddy, Jason or a guy with a chainsaw hacking up bodies, but there might as well have been. The Saturday night blood letting at Bernard Park saw the victors walk away with a combined 81 to 1 beating of their opponents.

Ernst & Young beat AF Smith 26 to 1; Frontier Fliers downed Switchworx 29 to 0 and Sea Venture blanked Island Construction 26 to 0 in one of the most lopsided nights of softball in recent memory,

Marcus Flannery of AF Smith homered in the first inning of thefirst game to give Smith a 1-0 lead - and that would be the last time any of the three losers would score in 15 innings.

E&Y pushed across five runs in the first as Monte Palsat (4-5) homered and the slaughterhouse was open for business. Ernst added nine runs in the second as Steve Velotti (3-5, 6 RBI) hit a grand slam and Palsat immediately followed with his second homer. E&Y scored two in the third, four in the fourth and six in the fifth to reach the 25-run mercy rule.

Chris Larkin (4-5), Ryan Amlen (4-4) and Mike (3-4) led the way for E&Y. Palsat ended the game with nine RBI.

Smith had just three hits, Flannery's homer, Carl Seymour (1-1) and Chris McLean (1-2).

And it got worse in the following 'contests.'

Frontier pounded home 29 runs in the FIRST inning to jump out to an insurmountable lead. Preston Mallory led off the game for the winners with an out, but then the next 24 batters all reached base before the second out was recorded.

When the dust had settled, Don Burgess (4-4, 5 RBI) Tracey Bean (3-4, HR, 5 RBI), Mallory (3-4, 4 HR) and Garic Swainson (3-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI) had piled on a game's worth of stats in the first inning.

Frontier wouldn't bat again as they allowed Switchworx to take their next four innings without interruption. Kevin Mason (2-2) and Daniel Nichols (2-2) had four of the teams five hits,

In some respects, Island Construction gave the best account of the losers as they had six hits and played the league's top club in Sea Venture, but the result was virtually the same.

SVOS scored nine times in the first as Terence Corday (5-5, 6 RBI) and Mark 'Butter' Herauf (4-5) hit back-to-back jacks. Sea Venture got four runs in the second, eight in the third and six in the fourth to close this one out 26 to 0.

Chris Coleman (3-5, HR), Doug Tufts (3-3) and McLaren Lowe (3-4) all contributed to Island Construction's misery.

Steve Rose was 2-2 for the losers.

Blueprinting 7, BNTB 5

A grand slam by Chris McLean (2-4) gave the BNTB a 5 to 2 lead, but Bermuda Blueprinting scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth to comeback for the win. Jason Ming (3-4, HR) and Daniel Hodder helped lead the club to victory.

Paul Cashin was 2-4 for BNTB.

ACE Invaders 13, D&J 9

ACE led all the way in this contest, but a spirited fightback by D&J Construction made this a close contest. Sam Peters (4-4), Joe Bellanca (2-4, HR, 5 RBI) and Les Dziwneka (2-4, HR, 4 RBI) were the top bats for ACE.

Devin Millett (3-3, 2 HR) was the choice batter for D&J.

Killer Goldfish 15, HSBC 4

The Goldfish scored 10 runs in the first two innings and never looked back as Matthew Durrant (3-4) and Somers Carr (3-4) both drove in four runs. Ryan Davidge (4-4) was perfect at the plate for the Goldfish. Pitcher Ron Renton was 3-4 in the losing cause.

D Division

KPMG 9, TPC Tees 3

TPC struck first with three runs in the opening frame, but KPMG scored six times in the third to win this game.

Both sides only had six hits apiece. David Shead (2-4), Eric Heinrich (2-3) and Todd Brooks (1-3, 2 RBI) led the way for KPMG. Dean Lottimore (2-4) and Chris McInnis (1-3, 2 RBI) were the best bats for TPC.

BEST 19, PwC 6

Jevaine Fubler smacked two homers and knocked in seven runs as BEST cruised to an easy win over PwC. Teammate Paulo Arruda was 3-3 with a triple.

Amanda Duckard (2-3) and Kenneth Vevers (2-4) each scored two runs for PwC.

Validus Re 17, Blue Sox 1

Jeff Clements (4-4) hit two homers and knocked in seven runs as he helped power Validus to their first softball win.

Kean Driscoll (4-4) also homered and leadoffs hitter Jason Miller (2-2) scored four runs.

Sven Pride (2-2) scored the lone Blue Sox run in the second inning on a groundout. Linda Salaam was also 2-2 for the Blue Sox.[[In-content Ad]]
