FRIDAY, MAY 4: I am here on my flight heading back to Baltimore, after having a great week working with Berkeley’s High School 2012-13 potential prefects and doing a workshop with the Bermuda Educators Council (BEC).

I appreciate both groups having me and my business partners come in and work with both teachers and students.

At the BEC workshop I spoke on “Unleashing your Potential”.

By doing this it gives you not only the power to be great, but the power to lead and complete any task at hand.

Understand that you are only able to unleash the greatness inside yourself if you are able to understand what you possess.

Some of us may have created a fear of thinking big, thinking great or making the greatest connection with ourselves.

Some are so afraid to share and let others into their world because they are too selfish to understand that others are only trying to learn from them and not hinder what they have to offer.

Some are so caught up in their own world that they do not understand what it takes to move someone else forward.

To unleash your full potential you have to know who you are first.

You have to figure out what makes you tick. You have to break yourself down completely and take ownership of that. You have to understand what you have and what direction you are going in, you must be realistic and honest with your goal setting.

How do you unleash your full potential? How do you break yourself down?

You first need to ask yourself who are you, then you have to figure out all your values and than recognize what type of personality and characteristics you possess.

For instance are you dominant - ruling or controlling; influential — having influence; steadiness — calm, not excitable; or are you compliant — cooperation or obedience.

We all possess parts of all of these traits, but one comes out stronger than the other. You will have to control and balance all four if you want to reach your full potential of being a great coach, athlete, artist, business person, teacher, parent or student.

Balancing the four will give you the power to relate to many and be a respectful leader. If you are not able to balance all four then you will realize that you will have many challenges with your leadership and getting people to believe in you.

If you take a look at many great athletes out there you will see how they changed their ways to become great and reach their full potential.

Let’s take Michael Jordan as an example, who was always a dominant and influential player. The work that he put in to become a leader was amazing, but it was with the help of his coach Phil Jackson.

Jordan became a more complete player once he learned how to balance himself out with being steady and compliant when needed. After this adjustment was made he then was able to get all his players’ trust and able to lead them to success.

You will be amazed on how much potential you have if you take the time and energy in breaking down who you really are.

As Oliver Wendell Holmes said: “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us”

Until next time!
