FRIDAY, AUGUST 17: More consultation between unions and government is needed, BPSU president Kevin Grant said yesterday.
And he added that a recent court decision overturning an Education Ministry bid to tranfer four primary school head teachers highlighted the need to follow negotiation rules.
Mr Grant said: “The importance of a clear understanding on the part of all parties involved so that there is no contravention of the collective bargaining agreement needs to be emphasised.
Solutions
“The process of consultation should involve meaningful and constructive negotiating between the two parties wherein a reasonable solution can be achieved and that the interests of both parties are taken into consideration.”
Mr Grant added that unions, the public sector and the private sector would all have to work together to improve the economy.
He added: “The BPSU will not waiver in making sure that the issue of consultation and meaningful dialogue is put to the forefront.
“We are firm believers that it is workers who will help turn this economy around and get the country back on its feet.”
Mr Grant added: There have been examples in other countries such as Singapore, Denmark and Barbados where collaborative efforts between the various sectors assisted in turning round their economies.”
