WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3: An undercover police officer has claimed she was groped by Los Angeles doctor Kevin Brown – the son of former Bermuda premier Dr Ewart Brown, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Giving evidence at the trial in LA, officer Stacey Young told the court that Dr Kevin Brown had lifted her shirt and bra and held her left breast in his hand during a visit to his office in June 2008.
The doctor is facing charges of sexually assaulting dozens of female patients, including a 15-year-old.
The LA Times reports that Officer Young was outfitted with audio surveillance equipment when she visited the doctor, posing as a patient with a chronic ankle problem.
The court was played an audio recording of the officer and Dr Kevin Brown discussing the ankle injury.
In her testimony, reports the Times, the officer said the exam was very normal.
But she said that as she prepared to leave Brown conducted another exam to check her ears and throat.
That was when she alleges he lifted her shirt and bra, and held her left breast in her hand.
She said it happened very quickly and he tried to apologize after she pushed him off.
Her testimony followed the testimony of other women who claim they had been assaulted or inappropriately touched by Brown when they came to him for treatment, the Times reported.
Prosecutors say Brown, 40, assaulted almost a dozen female patients under the guise of unnecessary breast and pelvic exams over a two-year period, beginning in 2003.
The LA Times reports that his 2008 arrest came after several women contacted authorities and accused Brown of sexually battering or raping them during those examinations, Deputy District Attorney Ann Marie Wise said.
Brown has pleaded not guilty to 33 felony sex charges and could face life in prison if convicted on all counts.
