Kevon Fubler has been chosen as captain to lead Bermuda’s Under-19 squad in the Sir Garfield Sobers Tournament next week in Barbados.
The tournament is being used as preparation for the America’s Under-19 Regional Tournament and the Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers.
Arnold Manders, director of cricket for the Bermuda Cricket Board, said: "This team is a very talented bunch of individuals that are extremely young — the average age being just over 15 years of age. They will be relying heavily on the experienced players such as captain Kevon Fubler, 18, Deunte Darrell, 17, senior national team player Joshua Gilbert, 16, and Greg Maybury, 16.”
Both Gilbert and Maybury will be joining the squad late as the former is playing for the national team against the UAE and the latter who is playing for Oakham College.
Manders added: "The team contains an abundance of all-rounders that possess a great amount of ability and the bowling attack contains a great variety of spinners and medium pace bowlers. It is hoped that within the next year that this team will seriously contend for a players at the Under-19 World Cup in 2012."
The team will play in Group A against Phoenix Academy (Barbados), St. Clair Dacon School (St. Vincent), Xenon Academy (Guyana), Bequia Community High School, Queens Park Club (Trinidad), Dulwich College (UK), BCL (Barbados) and Dominica Combined Schools with the winner of Group A going on to play the winner of Group B.
