Bermuda athlete Tyler Butterfield came 28th in the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii at the weekend.
His time was 8:46:16, attributed to injury in the run-up to the event and a drafting penalty during the bike leg.
He suffered a stress reaction in his right tibia, meaning he only had two proper run sessions in the five weeks before the race.
The drafting penalty was given halfway into the bike leg, effectively meaning a 10-minute slower cycle.
Tyler came out in 52.17 for the swim and rode a 4:50:25 for the bike.
His pace during the first 10 miles of the marathon was a steady 6-6.20 minute mile, putting him on track to run a 2.46-2.48 marathon.
But 11 miles into the race he dropped his pace, eventually running 2:59:19.
