Tuff Dogs on cusp of Men's League softball title

Men's League

Tuff Dogs put this game away when they scored eight times in the eighth inning. Kevin Taylor (4-5, 3 RBI) hit a homer in the fifth for the Dogs.

Team-mate Lovintz Tota was also 4-5 while Bradley Barton and John Ray were both 3-5

Island Construction showed their fight early on by scoring nine in the first inning as Steven Simons ((3-5) hit the first of his two homers. McLaren Lowe (3-5, HR), Jermaine Jeffers (3-4) and Keith Cully (3-5) all helped jumpstart the Construction offence.

The victory gives the Dogs a 2-0 lead in the series as they won game one 20 to 0. Jeffers and Simons were both 2-3 for Construction as the team only had nine hits.

Taylor (2-4, HR) drove home four runs for Dogs and Paul Aviles hit a first inning grand slam. Justin Barritt and Joel Czember were both 3-4 for the winners while leadoff man Ray was 2-2 with three walks.

Women's League

P & M 23, Café Cairo 8

20 runs in the first three innings helped P & M mercy Café Cairo. Stephanie Rego (3 RBI), Carla Zuill (3 RBI), Antoinette Williams and Rose Sanders (2 RBI) all were 3-4 in the triumph.

Azuree Williams, Diane Laird and Ashley Lopes were all 2-3 for Café Cairo, but the rest of the team only had three hits.

A Division

Tuff Dogs 30, Southlands 5

Bermuda's top co-ed team needed just three innings to end this lopsided affair. Southlands scored four in the first inning, but would only have two hits the rest of the way with no batter getting more than one hit.

Kevin Taylor and Andrew Simpson hit three-run homers in the first for the Dogs. Jermaine Jeffers hit a two-run homer in a 14-run second inning for the winners.

A/B Division

ACE 17, Marsh 16

In a game that saw six lead changes, ACE prevailed when Giuseppe Russo (2-4) hit a two out single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dan Sullivan (3-3) hit a key three-run homer in the inning for ACE. Team-mates Kamal Williams and Paul DeCouto (HR, 4 RBI) were both 3-5 while Don Burgess was 3-4.

Joe Fassler (5-6, 4 RBI) homered for Marsh while Blaine Bernard was also 5-6. Diane Blaise (4-6) drove in two runs as Marsh ou thit ACE 25 to 17.

B Division

Butterfield 7, BEST 0

Butterfield 8, BEST 7

The Butterfield Bulldawgs took game one of the series when Paulo Arruda was ejected for causing an altercation in the dugout. With no reserve players, BEST had to forfeit the contest.

Donnie Moniz (3-4) hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to give Butterfield the victory in game two. Earlier, team-mate Chris McLean (3-3) hit a pair of homers and drove in five of Butterfield's six runs. Paul Cashin, Ron Mystyk and Andy Lapointe were all 2-3 for the winners.

Jevaine 'Smokey' Fubler homered for BEST and clean-up hitter Shawn Warman was 3-4.

C Division

Arch 16, Robin Hood 11

Ryan Davidge (2-3) hit a grand slam to help lead Arch to an early lead and eventual victory over The Hood.

Matt Durrant (3-4) powered Arch into the lead in the first inning with a two-run homer while Richard Madeiros (3-4) hit a two-run shot in the sixth to help close out the scoring for the winners.

Team-mates Keith Culley (4-4), Somers Carr (3-4) and Seamus Durkin (3-4) also contributed to the win.

Doug Hillen was a perfect 4-4 at the plate for the Hood while Tyler Hall (4-5) got the job done from the leadoff spot.

Other scores: Olympia beat Argus 27 to 9 and 7 to 0 in D Division and PWC beat JLT 19 to 11 in E Division. The play-offs continue this week.[[In-content Ad]]
