MONDAY, MARCH 12: The City of Hamilton announced the resignation of Common Councillor Dennis Tucker from the Board of the City of Hamilton effective today, March 12, 2012.

Making the announcement was Mayor of Hamilton, Charles Gosling, who stated, “Councillor Dennis Tucker, J.P., met with me yesterday, Sunday, March 11, and presented his letter of resignation with effect Monday, March 12, 2012.

He advised that he intends to seek election as an Alderman for the City in the March 29, 2012 election and therefore had to resign from his current position.

“During his time on the Board, Dennis has been chaired both the Finance and Governance committees which have been at the core of our move towards open government and the accountability of Members. It has also been under his stewardship, as Chairman of the Finance Committee, that the Corporation has been able to weather the economic storm of reduced revenues.

“His prudent fiscal guidance during these difficult economic times has allowed us to save jobs and eliminate the City’s capital project debt, as planned.

The Mayor concluded, “I am pleased Dennis is seeking to build upon and increase his service to the City by running for the position of Alderman. I fully support him in this endeavour.”

Treasurer and Acting Chief Operating Officer to the City of Hamilton, Mr. Gary Edwards added, “In accordance with the law, the Parliamentary Registrar has been formally informed about Mr. Dennis Tucker’s resignation. We are obligated by the changes to the Municipalities Act to fill the now vacant position of Councillor within a two month period. This period falls within the time of the next Municipal election which will be held in May 2012. Therefore an election for the position of Common Councillor does not have to be held.

“The City of Hamilton, working with the Parliamentary Registrar, will be making further announcements in due course.”
