Trott helps Bermuda to storm back

Spinner claims five wickets as Uganda bowled out for 119 runs

A five-wicket haul from Rodney Trott clawed Bermuda back into the match against Uganda as the bowlers continued to hold sway on day two of their Intercontinental Shield match.

After being rolled over for 91 on day one a youthful Bermuda side, shorn of a host of senior players, responded magnificently to dismiss Uganda for an equally paltry 119 all-out.

Pacy Kavon Fubler, an 18-year-old left arm seamer elevated from the Under-19s, started the fightback on Monday night claiming three quick wickets.

But he pulled up with a side strain and it was left to 21-year-old spinner Trott to finish the job yesterday.

The Bailey's Bay slow bowler claimed career best international figures of 5 for 39 to bowl Bermuda back into the match.

By close of play on a rain-interrupted day skipper David Hemp had led Bermuda to 74 for 4 - a lead of 46 - leaving the game finely balanced.

The outcome of the match could be down to who wins the morning session today. The pitch has offered plenty of assistance to the slow bowlers so far.

And with both teams making tough conditions even tougher with a string of injudicious strokes - any three-figure target would be tough to chase in the fourth innings.

Bermuda's chances rest with Hemp, who was unbeaten on 26 at the close of play.

He partnered with Stephen Outerbridge - briefly reprising the combination that was so successful in South Africa - to dig Bermuda out of the mire on 20 for 2, after openers Fiqre Crockwell and Terryn Fray had both been dismissed cheaply.

But when Outerbridge fell for 23 to a stunning one handed catch at point, Uganda scented blood.

They quickly got rid of Irving Romaine and cranked up the pressure on young night watchman Kavon Fubler, with eight fieldsmen round the bat.

The teenager stood firm and will resume alongside Hemp this morning on six not out.

"We need to bat as long as possible tomorrow," said Logie.

"If we get a total of around 180 that's something we could live with.

"The bowlers have held sway in this match so far. It's not just been about the shots the batsmen have played. The pitch has helped the bowlers. Anything close to 200 and we feel we have a very good chance.

"It's pretty much down to Hemp. He is going to need some support. I was encouraged by the way Fubler played at the end and if he can stick around and score 30 or 40 it would really assist the skipper.

"At the moment I think it is even-stevens. We still have six wickets in hand and the skippers at the wicket so we can get the extra 120 runs we need to put us in the driving seat."[[In-content Ad]]
