It's likely that the Bank of Bermuda Foundation Triathlon will have new individual champions. Last year's men's and women's crowns were won by Tyler Butterfield and his girlfriend Nikki Egyed, but both have been training extensively for their cycling teams in Europe.

Butterfield's dad Jim told the Bermuda Sun that Tyler would almost certainly not be doing the Bank's triathlon, which would leave the title up for grabs.

The individual events are set for October 7 at Albouy's Point, but the team event is held a week earlier on September 30. The series also includes a junior duathlon. Last year over 400 athletes participated in one of the four events.

Bermuda Triathlon Association president Steven Petty said in a press release that the "Bank of Bermuda Foundation Triathlon is an annual event to be marked on the calendar of every local athlete. Its course is competitive and challenging for those participating and a great thrill for the community to witness."

David Lang, director and secretary of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation, added: "What's great about this triathlon event is that it welcomes a broad range of participants. Individual athletes, corporate teams, men, women and juniors are all eligible. The Bank of Bermuda Foundation Triathlon is very much a community-spirited event and a chance to celebrate our local athletes."
