WEDNESDAY, FEB. 29: The Tourism Board will be restructured to give its members more power, it was announced yesterday.

Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert said more people directly involved in tourism would be asked to sit on the board.

And he added: “The restructuring will give members more authority over how the sales, marketing promotional dollars are spent.”

Minister Furbert told a press conference that making Bermuda an all-year-around destination again was a priority.

He said that the re-launch of the Spring Break programme had proved a success and helped boost air arrivals for the month of February.

Mr Furbert added: “We will complete our national Tourism Plan in early spring, which will provide a vision for Bermuda for the next five to ten years.

The Tourism Minister said that his ministry would continue to sponsor events like the Rugby Classic and various fishing competitions.
