Straight off the bat / A player's perspective

Tour to Argentina was positive for our young players

First of all Merry Christmas to all my readers. Next year is a big one for Bermuda cricket and hopefully we'll have your support as we try to requalify for the World Cup.

I'm looking forward to the challenge already. I'm feeling good and looking to build on what we have achieved, continue on and make Bermuda proud.

I think there are plenty of reasons to be positive.

The A tour in Argentina has given a few new players the chance to get exposed to international cricket and I think we've learned a lot from that trip. They won four out of five games and came back with the trophy - it was a positive tour.

Obviously the batsmen will be disappointed that no-one made a hundred and a few players didn't perform as well as they wanted but that's true on any tour.

Some players come back analyzing what they have to do to improve and what they need to work on, others come back pleased with the way they played.

Glenn Blakeney continued on with his good form. His return has been a big bonus for Bermuda. I'm sure a few of the other senior players would have liked to get a few more runs as well.

It makes sense that we have an A team. Some would say it's something we should have done sooner but it's happening now and it's a great way to get more players acclimatized to international cricket.

Argentina are not a bad side. They are getting better and better and this was a chance for some new guys to show what they could do.

Fiqre Crockwell was one that stood out, for me. He got a couple of fifties on his first tour and we now have another option as a wicket-keeper batsman to look at. I think the tour served its purpose and we have more options now for the senior squad.

Lots of cricket

With all the international cricket that's happening right now it's been pretty much a sleepless weekend for me!

West Indies tour of New Zealand, England in India and South Africa against Australia have been keeping me up nights.

The highlight of the weekend was South Africa's record breaking run chase against Australia. After India's run chase last week against England it just shows how much the standard of batting has improved worldwide.

Both those games illustrated the importance of runs at the top of the order. Schewag was magnificent for India in their run chase and then Graeme Smith led from the front with a century as South Africa chased over 400 for victory against the Aussies.

Unfortunately the other two Tests finished in draws yesterday but it was entertaining stuff. As a player you can also learn a lot from watching players at the highest level.

I don't sleep when there's this much cricket on. I'm just glad it's over, so I can get some rest before the Boxing Day games![[In-content Ad]]
