FRIDAY, JULY 8: New Front Street boutique Daisy’s is staging its official opening party in style next week, inviting world-renowned fashion designer Dolita Paris to attend.
The Parisian designer needs little introduction having dressed such celebrities as Beyoncé Knowles (on the cover of Ebony magazine), Lady Gaga, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Toni Braxton, Lauryn Hill and Bjork. Her clothes have featured in the glossy pages of titles such as Elle, Glamour, Vogue and Cosmopolitan.
Daisy’s, at 11 Front Street, has been open since May replacing Daisy and Mac’s children’s line with a wide variety of women’s clothes and accessories. It will be the first local store to carry clothes from the Dolita Paris collection.
“We’ve got her slightly more conservative dress line,” explained Dawn Zuill, owner of Daisy’s and Daisy and Mac. “She dresses Lady Gaga so she’s got some really funky stuff and some really moderate stuff and all in between. All her clothes are hand stitched, she makes every single piece.”
Dolita’s feminine line was launched in 2008 inspired by the energy of the city and the romance of Paris.
She will be on hand to meet and greet guests at the opening party on Friday July 15. There will be food and drinks available from 5:30pm and the party will run until 8pm.
Daisy’s will also be inviting the models who are taking part in the Four Seasons Fashion Festival’s Evolution show taking place the following day at City Hall. Daisy’s is one of 33 local retailers taking part in festival, said to be the largest fashion event to have taken place on the island. (See www.bermudasun.bm)
The store is the third in the Daisy and Mac group and is the first dedicated women’s clothes. It carries everything from evening dresses to casual wear to business suits as well as shoes, bags, jewellery, hair accessories, hats and even wigs.
“Whether it’s for fun or dress up they are buying it for something different. That’s what we really want to be is something different we don’t want to be the typical general department store we want to be that slightly edgier something you can go out in and get noticed.”
The store carries a clothing line from South Africa called Iron Fist which does shoes and accessories, Volatile is a shoe line out of California and a US clothes line called Alberto Makali.
Ms Zuill added: “Iron Fist is a little bit younger and more edgy than Alberto Makali are more of a business line so suits, jackets and matching tops but still a bit more colour and a bit more fun but marries with a basic pant/jacket system.
“Volatile is a good — it’s a shoe that does everything — business, casual, wedges it’s good for comfort. It’s not just run of the mill. We have some great evening shoes as well. We have a little bit of everything for everyone.”
