FRIDAY, APR. 27: A seminar on Canadian tax investments will be held next week.

AFL Investments, in partnership with the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, will host an “Investing in Canada and Canadian Tax Update” information session on Thursday, May 3 at noon.

The seminar is designed for anyone interested in learning more about Canadian dollar investments and Canadian taxes.

It will explore the strengths of this currency, the current economic conditions and impact of global markets in Canada, as well as Canadian dollar offshore investment options.

The session will also provide a tax update, looking in particular at how to define ‘resident’ and ‘non-resident’ for tax purposes, the implications of sending children to Canadian schools, purchasing property and actively investing in Canada as a non-resident, and retiring in Canada.

The investments section will be presented by Matt Maldoff, CFA, from Cidel Financial Group. Mr. Maldoff specialises in qualitative and quantitative analysis of fund managers. Matt has spoken frequently in Bermuda and his engaging style makes complex concepts easily understood.

The tax update will be delivered by Arun (Ernie) Nagratha, CA, CPA, from Trowbridge Professional Corporation, who has also been well-received as a speaker at previous AFL Investments events.

Cindy Campbell, COO of AFL Investments, said: “This event is perfect for any Bermuda residents looking to add or increase currency diversification into their investment portfolio.

“The Canadian dollar has performed strongly in recent years due to the commodity boom making it an interesting option for local investors.

Retirement

“The seminar also provides Bermuda residents with clarification on the tax implications of capitalising on the investment, education or retirement opportunities presented by Canada.

“I am delighted to welcome Matt and Ernie from Canada and to be working with Bermuda Chamber of Commerce to deliver the information session.”

The information session will be held in The Argus Training Centre in the new Argus Building at 14 Wesley Street in Hamilton. Interested individuals need to register to attend by e-mailing [email protected] or calling 295-0331 as space is limited.

The event is free to attend for Bermuda Chamber of Commerce members or $10 for non-members.

A light lunch will be provided.
