The stark choices we face at the next election
FRIDAY, SEPT. 14: The next election in Bermuda is a choice between a PLP with a proven record of standing strong for all Bermudians during challenging times for the global economy and an OBA that won’t tell us what they’ll do.
The choice in this next election is between a PLP that delivered one man, one vote and brought democracy to municipal governments in Hamilton and St. George’s — and, an OBA that opposed it.
It’s a choice between a PLP that delivered the Economic Empowerment Zones (EEZ) in NE Hamilton, St. George’s and Somerset to help Bermudian owned businesses thrive and an OBA who has pledged to dismantle it.
It’s a choice between a PLP that delivered DayCare that helps struggling families with the childcare they need and an OBA who won’t tell us whether or not they’ll keep the programme.
The next election is a choice between a PLP that delivered FutureCare, which provides affordable healthcare and prescription drugs to seniors after a lifetime of hard work — and an OBA that attacked the programme every step of the way.
These are challenging times for the global economic times.
As Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer of Antigua & Barbuda noted recently at the BIU Banquet, it’s not just Bermuda that is experiencing these tough times — countries around the world are suffering.
The next election in Bermuda is a choice between a PLP that stands strong for working and middle class Bermudians and an OBA that has offered no ideas and no solutions.
