Still plenty of cricket to come
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8: First off, congratulations to Somerset as they were the better team on the day.
Usually after Cup Match everything dies off and we have trouble fielding teams. We need to keep all our cricketers playing through the end of the season as training camp will break on the World Cricket League Division Three Tournament.
They need to keep in shape so when the call comes they will be ready.
We need to be focused as this is a do-or-die competition for cricket in Bermuda.
If we don’t come in the top two, we will already be eliminated from the next phase of World Cup qualifying.
But the bigger issue is if we come in the bottom two, we’ll get dropped into Division Four.
At the very minimum, out of the six teams, we will want to be in the top four, and obviously the top two would be even better because we want to progress.
I am still very interested in playing for Bermuda and helping it qualify for Division Two.
After that I’ll reassess my national team commitment but I love giving back to my country and still have the desire and hunger that is necessary to play at this level.
I want to be the best shape that I have ever been.
As an added incentive these matches are at home.
One of my biggest disappointments was that we never got a certified One Day International wicket after we qualified for the 2007 World Cup.
We never had a chance to play at home in front of our fans against top calibre teams.
We did get to travel the world, but everyone wants to play at home when they can.
This is a great opportunity to save our cricket on home soil.
We can’t afford to slip any further in the world standings.
We’re rebuilding and we can compete and succeed in this tournament and moving back up to Division Two and get a second bite of the cherry.
