St. David’s young guns to test Rangers
Western Stars v Flatts
On Saturday at 11am
At St. John’s Field
Western Stars will be strong favourites on their return to 50-over action at the weekend.
Even without Saleem Mukuddem and Hasan Durham they looked comfortable against St George’s last weekend with Dandy Town soccer star Maurice Lowe (75) the main contributor with the bat.
Skipper Justin Robinson continued his good form last week and will relish bowling against a Flatt’s line-up that was skittled for 50 at Somerset, in the absence of national team hero Dean Minors last week.
St. David's v Social Club
On Saturday at 11am
At Lord’s, St. David’s
St. David’s have proved emphatically already this season that there is life after Clay Smith.
New captain Arthur Pitcher jnr, his brother Justin, pace bowler Mackie Crane and returning off-spinner Delyone Borden form the core of an exciting, youthful team.
They thrashed Social Club by an innings in the two-day league last weekend and there’s no reason to think Charlie Marshall’s men have a better chance in the limited overs game.
Social Club v Western Stars
Sunday at 11am
At Devonshire Rec
The second game in two days for these sides who have some catching up to do because of early postponements.
Winston Simmons and Charlie Marshall have been the stand-out players for Social Club in a mixed season so far.
But they couldn’t have asked for two tougher fixtures in a weekend and Stars will feel confident of victory.
Somerset v Flatts
On Sunday at 11am
At SCC
With emerging youngsters like Jordan De Silva, star of the island’s under-15 side, starting to make an impact on the first team and more seasoned players like Jacobi Robinson and Tony Cheeseman leading from the front, Somerset look in good shape.
They haven’t had the world's best start to the season but they've been unlucky in some close matches. They did, however, beat Flatts convincingly in the two-day league and will fancy their chances of doing the same again.
Warwick v Bailey’s Bay
On Sunday at 11am
At Southampton Oval
Warwick are struggling in both forms of the game this season and won’t be relishing this match-up with Bay.
The return of outstanding prospects like Lemar Caines and Kion Butterfield from school should make a difference but at the moment they look short of runs and confidence.
Bay were outclassed by Rangers last weekend but who hasn't been over the past two seasons? They’ll look to Jermaine Outerbridge to provide valuable runs this weekend.
St. David’s v Southampton Rangers
On Sunday at 11am
At Lord's, St David’s
This could well be the biggest test of Rangers’ ability to hold on to their title.
St. David’s will have warmed up with a make-up game against Social Club on Saturday and will look to the Pitchers, Chris Foggo and Delyone Borden to try and put some runs on the board against a rampant Rangers attack.
Father and son duo Olin and Malachi Jones shared 16 wickets last weekend as they routed Bailey’s Bay, so St David’s will have to be at their best.
They probably wish they had pace man George O’Brien in the line up to shake up the implacable Keith Wainwright though, who is in sterling form for Rangers with the bat.
First Division
Devonshire Rec v Police
On Saturday at 11am
At Devonshire Rec
A series of postponements means that this is the first time these two clubs get to duke it out in limited overs cricket this year.
Rec have fared better in the two-day league with an emphatic win over Warwick last weekend.
Centurion Dean Stephens was the inspiration on that occasion and with Derrick and Ricardo Brangman also in reasonable nick they’ll fancy their chances here against Police.
Cleveland County
v St. Georges
On Sunday at 11am
At Wellington Oval
St. George’s have a host of hungry youngsters determined to make an impact on the national team selectors.
That much has been evidenced by the early season form of spinner Jade Foggo and all-rounder Oronde Bascome, who scored his first century last weekend.
They should have too much for Cleveland at the weekend. Dennis Musson is the danger man for Cleveland, though.
Police v Somerset Bridge
On Sunday
At Police Field
The second game of the weekend for Police should be a more comfortable encounter than the first.
But fair play to Somerset Bridge, after a tough start to the season, they were much more competitive against Cleveland last weekend, twice posting three-figure totals.
It’s taken some brilliant all-round contributions from Donnie Charles to keep their heads above water, though, and it will be interesting to see how they fare against Police.
PHC v Devonshire Rec
On Sunday at 11am
At White Hill Field
Rec will again fancy their chances against a side they hammered in two-day cricket a few short weeks ago.
Charles Symonds has been in good form with the ball for PHC, as had Devonshire Rec.
But if deadly Dean Stephens continues to bat as he has done all seaon there could be a few car windscreens in danger in the parking lot on Sunday.
Leg Trappers v Willow Cuts
On Sunday at 11am
At Sea Breeze Oval
Luke O’Connor's magnificent start to the season continued against Cuts last week with the captain leading from the front in style.
All-rounder O’Connor has been among the runs and in the wickets and probably can’t wait to get at Cuts again having hit 97 and taken five for, last weekend.[[In-content Ad]]
