St. David's file protest over Social Club player
St. David's have filed a complaint to the Bermuda Cricket Board claiming Social Club fielded an ineligible player in their opening day victory over the eastenders.
They are alleging that Ricky Hoyt played for Social Club despite not having a work permit to be on the island - one of the stipulations required for foreign nationals to play in the Bermuda Cricket Board league.
Social Club, who suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of St. George's at the weekend, are currently tied with St. David's at the top of the division.
Both sides have lost only once this season.
But if the board decides in favour of St. David's they will be awarded the victory and will move clear of their rivals into the top spot.
St. David's coach Lionel Cann said: "We found out that they had fielded an ineligible player so we are asking that the points be awarded to us. The rules are pretty clear.
"If we get those points we'll have a two game advantage at the top. I feel very confident that we have the players to win the league but we'll be losing three players, including myself, to the national squad and once OJ (Pitcher) and Delyone (Borden) go back to school, that's two more players we'll lose.
"It would be nice to have that cushion."
The BCB confirmed that it was looking into the matter but said no decision was likely until after Cup Match.
The Bermuda Sun left a message for Social Club coach Marshall, but he did not return our phone call.[[In-content Ad]]
