TUESDAY, JUNE 28, 5PM UPDATE: Shianne Smith won a silver and a bronze medal at the Island Games today.
Smith, Bermuda’s heptathlon record holder, won a silver in the 100m hurdle and a bronze in the shot put.
Smith clocked a 15.14 in the hurdles to finish just shy of winner Hannah Riley from the Isle of Man.
Angela Lopez from Menorca was third in 15.41.
In the shot put, Smith had a distance of 11m, which earned her the bronze. Shadine Duquemin from Jersey won the event with a throw of 12.21m with Lucy Rann from the Isle of Wight taking the silver with a toss of 11.58m.
Melissa Clarke won Bermuda’s second silver medal with a second place finish in the 400m.
Clarke clocked a 57.94 to earn a silver. Harriet Pryke won gold in a time of 55.60 with Camilia Olsson of Gotland winning the bronze in 58.74.
Bermuda now has five medals. Sean Trott won a bronze on Sunday in the half marathon and then he also picked up a bronze along with Stephen Allen in the team half marathon.
Badminton
In men’s singles, Mark Haugen won in the round of 64 with a score of 21-13, 21-8 and won his round of 32 match 16-21, 25-23, 15-21 before losing in the round of 16 21-11, 21-7.
Rohan Pai also won his round of 64 match but lost his match 14-21, 12-21.
In the women’s doubles, Dianne Blais and Rowena Cespedes lost their opening match 14-21, 6-21.
Basketball
The ladies bounced back from a close opening loss to Guernsey to beat the Isle of Wight 70 to 32. They finished second in the group and will now face winless Isle of Man on Wednesday.
Cycling

Golf
Damian Palanyandi was tied for seventh after shooting an opening round 70. He is four strokes off the pace of Brandon Robinson-Thomson from the Isle of Wight.
Camiko Smith is within striking distance as he carded a 75 today, good enough to be tied for 18th on the leaderboard. Alex Osbourne is one stroke behind Smith while Ryan Benevides shot an 84 and is 51st overall.
In the team event, Bermuda is fifth overall on 221 as the squad gets to drop its lowest score. It is currently eight strokes off the pace for a medal.
Island Games veteran Ebonie Burgess is tied for sixth amongst the women. Burgess carded a 79, six strokes behind the leader. Elizabeth Parsons shot an 85 (11th) while Katrin Burnie (88, 22nd) and Laura Robinson (91, 29th) were further down the field.
In the team event, the women were fifth overall with a 252, just five strokes behind the bronze medal position.
Sailing
Jason Saints continued his good form with a 10th and a fifth to hold on to second after six races. He is currently on 43 points and should be in a good battle for a medal over the last four races.
Sara Lane Adderley is in fifth as she continues to slip down the fleet. She had two 14th place finishes today and is now on 56 points, 11 behind the bronze medal position.
Results to come for Brett Wright and Rockal Evans in the Laser Class.
Shooting
In the Sporting competition, Brian Mello and James McPhee were 39th and 40th out of 40 competitors. The pair are making their international debut.
In the ISSF 50m Prone Smallbore rifle for men, Carl Reid was 16th with 565 points and Anthony Evans 21st with 484 points. There were 22 competitors.
In the same event for women, Dwaynette Smith was eighth with 532 points and Maurisa Smith was ninth with 527 points. There were nine competitors and the pair is also making their international debut.
Squash
Juliette Ferrari-Mcomb lost her first round match 0-3 in the women’s singles.
Laura Robinson won her second round match 3-0, but lost her second round match 0-3.
Micah Franklin won his second round match 3-0 after getting a bye in the first round. He then lost his third round match 2-3.
Chris Stout won his first round match 3-0, lost his next match 0-3 but won his third round match 3-1.
Tennis
Both Gavin Manders and Naim Azhar have advanced to the round of 16. Azhar easily won his match today 6-1, 6-1. Manders won his match 6-0, 6-4.
David Thomas has yet to play.
Thomas and Azhar won their doubles match 6-0. 6-0.
Manders and Jenson Bascome have yet to play.
Both Jackie Lambert and Tyler Smith are into the quarterfinals of the women’s draw.
Smith won 6-3, 6-2 while it took three sets for Jackie Lambert to prevail as she had to come back after losing the first one 2-6.
Tara Lambert lost her round of 16 match 0-6, 0-6.
The Lambert sisters won their doubles match 6-3, 6-4.
Volleyball
Bermuda defeated Hitra 3-0 in women’s play, winning 25-22, 25-12 and 24-14. They are currently second in their group and will play Gotland later today.
Bermuda’s men almost had their first victory of the tournament after falling to Gotland 25-18, 18-25, 17-25, 25-17 and 5-15. They play Guernsey on Wednesday.
