Sexy Mex: I’m coming for Perozzi’s belt
Confident Martha Deitchman touches down in Bermuda later today ahead of Saturday's NABC World Middleweight title bout.
And the 39-year-old mother of three insists that when she gets back on the plane next week she'll be taking Teresa's belt with her.
“I know I am going to win. I have to win. It is very important for me. This is a dream that I have always wanted to accomplish and I am ready for it.
“I’ve prepared more and trained harder for this fight than I ever have before. I’m going home with a world title belt.”
Deitchman was born in Texas to a German father and Mexican mother. She lives and trains in Denver and works as a masseuse and physical therapist — ironically the same profession as Perozzi.
That aside she knows little about her opponent on Saturday night.
“I looked her up on the Internet and she seems to have plenty of experience and is a good fighter.
“It's going to be a great fight. I'm looking forward to it.”
Perozzi has already stated that she will be going for a knockout. And her opponent, who has worked with Ron Lyle who fought Mohammed Ali, says she will be taking the same aggressive philosophy into the fight.
“I’m going to try to knock her out but if it goes the distance and I win on points I won't complain.”
While Perozzi stepped down in weight to fight for the Middleweight belt, Deitchman has moved up a class, fighting at 150lbs for the first time in a defeat against Lisa Holloway last year.
But she is sure it will be a different story, now she has had time to adjust to the new weight division.
And she insists she will shed her friendly, motherly image when the bell rings.
“I don’t have a certain technique. But when I am in the ring, I am a different person.”
She said she had wanted to be a boxer since she was 11 but had not got into the sport till much later in life.
“I wanted to show my kids that you can live your dream. It doesn’t matter how old you are, or what stands in your way.”
She knows the crowd will be against her on Saturday night but says she is not worried about the potentially intimidating atmosphere at CedarBridge Academy.
“I’ll just concentrate and do what I do best and maybe I can win some of the crowd over.”[[In-content Ad]]
