Sea Venture Overseas Shipping ended its illustrious softball dynasty by winning both the men's and co-ed A championships this weekend. The club was the dominant team in softball this decade.

SVOS won the men's title in convincing fashion as it swept Hit & Sit in three games, ending the last two games early because of the mercy rule.

Sea Venture took game two 25 to 9 as they used a 12-run fifth inning to put distance between them and their rivals. While their critics may point to them as an all-power team, SVOS scored all those runs without the benefit of a homer.

Earlier in the game, John Ray, Joel Czember, Chris Coleman and Chris Montgomery all hit balls out of the park.

Darren Green had two homers for Hit & Sit while Matt O'Connell and Ian Moores also went deep.

The final game was a bigger beat down as SVOS rammed across 33 runs in five innings to beat Hit & Sit by 20. The champs scored 10 in the second and 14 in the third to put Hit & Sit out of this game early.

A Division

SVOS also swept the top co-ed division. They slipped past Tuff Dogs in the final game 15 to 14 after training early. Dianne Laird scored the winning run in extra innings thanks to a two out error. Deon Bell (2-4, HR, 3 RBI) and McLaren Lowe (2-3, HR, 3 RBI) drove in most of the runs for the champs. Kevin Taylor (3-4, HR, 5 RBI) and Lavintz Tota (4-4, HR, 3 RBI) were the big bats for Tuff Dogs.

B Division

Scandinavian Re took three of four games from Castlewood to win both league and playoff titles.

Scan re won the final game 30 to 10 as they asserted their authority early by scoring 12 in the first inning. Joe Barroso (4-5) hit the first of his two homers to propel the winners into the lead. Team-mates Kirk Duerden (5-5) and Mike Malott (4-4) were both perfect at the plate. Art Palmer (3-4) also drove in four runs for Scan Re. Barry Griffiths (3-3) hit two homers for Castlewood in the losing cause. Lead-off man Greg Carey was 3-3. n
