Sea Venture douple dips
After SVOS West secured the Division 1 crown with a win over their compatriots from SVOS East, the combined Sea Venture team completed the series comeback against Tuff Dogs to claim the Men’s Division title for the second straight year.
After dropping the opening game of the series, Sea Venture took the next two, including a 30-21 victory in the third game to steal the Men's Division title away from Tuff Dogs.
Deon Bell (4/5, 4 RBI) and Steven Simons (3/6, 4 RBI) went deep for Sea Venture, and Danny Cook (4/5) added a three-run homerun during the key fifth inning.
Kevin Taylor (4/5, 3 RBI) and Justin Barritt (4/6, 3 RBI) homered for Tuff Dogs, who came close to knocking off the reigning champions.
Division 1
SVOS West defeated SVOS East by 17-9 in the second game of the Division 1 finals. Kirk Duerden (6 RBI) cracked a grand slam to highlight the first inning, and Jon Gazzard added a two run shot in the fourth to add some breathing room.
Dean Martin drove in four runs for the East.
Group 1
Renegades took advantage of a three-run starting cushion, as they held on to defeat Scandinavian Re by 10-8 to claim the Group 1 playoff title.
Dwayne Basden (3/3, 4 RBI) cracked a grand slam in the third inning to push the lead to nine runs.
A solo homerun by Eric Haller (2/3) in the fourth finally put Scan Re on the scoreboard, as their offence came too late to complete the comeback.
Tiffany Swan also brought in a run for Renegades, while Steve Halischuk (3/4) drove in two runs for Scan Re.
Group 2
BISYS overcame a three-run starting deficit to take down Docksiders Tuff Dogs by 15-12 to secure the Group 2 playoff title.
Mike Gentile (4/4) doubled twice and drove in seven runs for BISYS, with Sebastien Huot (4/4) bringing in three in support.
Harry Andrews (3/4) hit a three-run homerun and Anna Abend drove in a run in the loss.
Group 3
E&Y started with five runs, but their offence made that unnecessary as they blasted The Beach by 21-5 to win the Group 3 playoff title.
Ryan Amlin (4 RBI) hit a three-run homerun to open the floodgates and Mandy Palsat drove in two more during an eight-run first inning outburst.
Bob Petty (3/3) drove in two for The Beach.
Semi-finals
The Beach earlier advanced to the finals with a 22-8 win over Fairmont Fantastixx. Blaine Bernard (4/5, 7 RBI) hit a grand slam and Joe Logan (3/4) drove in five runs.
Jon Towers drove in two runs for Fairmont. E&Y earlier advanced to the finals with an 18-11 win over The Lava-Lava’s.
Krista Osten (3/4) drove in three runs to lead E&Y. Teddy Terciera (2/4, 5 RBI) hit a grand slam and Price Smith (3/3) added a solo shot for the Lava’s.
