A nightmare tour for the young left-hander reached an all-time low on Tuesday when he was out for a duck - his second of the match - as Bermuda lost their Intercontinental Cup game with the Dutch by an innings and 44 runs.
And, despite a run of low scores stretching back to the ICC World Cricket League in Kenya in January, Romaine insists his vice-captain is still very much part of the game plan as Bermuda look for revenge in two ODIs against the Dutch on Saturday and Monday.
"We may put Jekon (Edness) up a little higher and push Stephen down the order a little bit.
"Stephen's having a tough time at the moment, but we are trying to get him to stay positive. It's cricket, it happens.
"I really hope he can come out of it with a big score this weekend. He's a great player and he has to stay positive. He just needs one big score and he'll be good."
Romaine, who came out of his own mini-slump with a cracking unbeaten century on Monday, said he feels in good nick going into the weekend and is looking to lead his side with another captain's innings.
"It was nice to get that hundred. I'm not the type of player that worries too much about low scores, but that felt really good.
"I'm looking to score more runs but I really want the team to do well. It would be nice to come away with a victory.
"The results so far haven't reflected the ability and hopefully the fellas can show what they can do over the next few days."
Romaine said the tour had been a learning experience for everyone, but the players were looking forward to getting back to limited overs cricket after the mauling they suffered in the four day game.
"I think the one-day will suit us more. The guys are a bit more familiar with that type of cricket and I feel we should be able to put a good total on the board.
"James Celestine is a very aggressive player and I think he was struggling to curb his aggression a bit too much.
"He's a bit like Lionel Cann when he first started - trying to curb his appetite for the boundaries. He'll be able to play a bit more of his natural game this time."
Romaine, who attended a benefit match for England wicket-keeper Paul Nixon yesterday said Jacobi Robinson was likely to be fit for the weekend after coming through bowling practice.
The squad has also been bolstered by the addition of a young Bermudian student who is living in England, who has flown in to aid the injury crisis.
"I don't know much about him. He's a young spinner and he played with us last time we were in England," added the skipper.[[In-content Ad]]
