FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14: Jacobi Robinson credits his return to spin bowling as the key to his success this season. Robinson won the Logic First Division Player of the Year award on Thursday.
Robinson was a big part of the reason why Somerset won the First Division title this year as it blended in a young supporting cast of up-and-coming cricketers.
Robinson took 25 wickets and scored 151 runs. He said this was a transitional year as he went from medium pace to spin to help save some wear and tear on his body.
“I worked hard and trained hard at it and reaped the rewards and hopefully next year I can do it all again in the Premier League.
“I was bowling spin as a youngster, but Arnold Manders turned me into a medium pacer because I guess I was taller than everyone, but I just feel like to prolong my cricketing career — I’ve had two knee operations — to get the best out of me, spin is it.
“I always wanted to be a spinner but I never had the guts to say I’m going to drop being a medium pacer and bowl spin. Now it’s just natural at it.”
Lionel Cann and Vernon Eve were also up for the First Division Player of the Year award.
