Roban: Turn in gunmen
TUESDAY, JAN. 10: An MP yesterday called on the public to turn in the men responsible for the murder of a young father on Sunday.
Walter Roban, who represents Pembroke East, said: “I wish to express my sadness that the residents of The Glebe Road area were once again faced with an act of senseless violence on their doorsteps.
“It is also a tragedy that another young Bermudian male is the victim and another family has lost a loved one.
“It is of the utmost priority that the perpetrators be apprehended and face the full extent of the law and justice system.”
Mr Roban hit out after Stefan Burgess, who leaves behind a girlfriend and a young daughter, was gunned down in The Glebe Road on Sunday night.
Mr Burgess was rushed to hospital, but died at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital shortly after admission.
Another 24-year-old man was also shot, but he remains in stable condition in the hospital.
Mr Roban said that the use of CCTV in the area and a heightened police presence had helped to stem trouble around the neighbourhood.
He added: “Residents in The Glebe Road don’t deserve to be put through this, nor do people in any other area of Bermuda.
“The island of Bermuda, all her residents and the Government have clearly expressed zero tolerance for this behaviour and we support all the efforts of the police service and others to stem violent crime in our community.
“I encourage anyone who may have information that will assist in solving this crime to cooperate with the authorities.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the victim.”
