Renegades defeated the ACE Invaders 7 to 4 to start the B division summer season. Santos Garcia provided the big blow for Renegades with a three-run homer in the fourth inning. Renegades added three unearned runs in the fifth to seal the win. Dwayne Basden was 3-3 for Renegades while team-mate Preston Mallory was 2-3.

Patrick Reardon was 3-3 for ACE with Joe Bellanca and Peter Liabotis both 2-3.

Tuff Dogs had little trouble in putting away Castlewood in a 16 to 1 triumph. Castlewood picked up its lone run in the first inning when Jeff Edy (2-2) scored on an over throw. Barry Griffiths and Junior Lapointe got the only other hits for Castlewood.

The Dogs scored five in the first and seven in the second as they cruised to an easy win. Lovintz Tota (3-3) started the game off with a homer. Joe Hooks (1-2) hit a grand slam in the second inning. Hywel Brown (3-3) and Kevin Taylor (3-4) also had fine games for the victors.

D Division

On Sunday D Division play started with Aspen making their softball debut. They were no match for BEST Shipping, which mercied them 15 to 0, but their play improved as the game wore on. BEST's Sasha Mann almost pitched a no-hitter, losing his shot at local immortality with a questionable call at first in the last inning.

BEST scored six runs in the first without the benefit of a hit. David Wagner (1-4) hit a solo shot in the fourth and Erico Cann was (2-3) and David Wagner (3-3) led the teams in hits. Wagner scored the game-ending run on a Cann single in the sixth.

Marsh had picked up a default win over Docksiders.

The night's late game was postponed after bugs invaded the pitch to make the field unplayable.

Dogs down Sea Venture

In men's league play, Tuff Dogs got the upperhand over division rivals Sea Venture in a 27 to 12 wipe-out.

Sea Venture scored five in the first inning, three on a Chris Coleman homer, but struggled to string together hits until the seventh when they used homers by Dean Williams (2-4) and Danny Cook (4-5) to avoid being mercied.

SVOS played uncharecteristically bad defence, committing seven errors to aid the Tuff Dogs cause.

Tuff Dogs took their first lead of the game in the second as Lovintz Tota hit a three-run homer.

Tota (3-5) also hit a two-run shot the following inning.

Joe Hooks (3-6) knocked in two with a homer in the fourth.

The star of the game though, was Ryan Gaglio. He hit a three-run shot in the fifth and was 6-6 at the plate, driving in five runs and scoring five.

Justin Barritt (3-6) also had five RBIs for Tuff Dogs.

Sea Venture did pick up a won on Monday night in the game prior to Tuff Dogs.

SVOS beat up Ernst & Young 24 to 9.

Ernst scored three times in the first as Dan Sullivan (3-4) and Jeff Jane (1-4) hit homers. They would pick up single runs as Eric Haller (3-3) and Monte Palsat (3-4) hit solo shots to waste their homers.

Sea Venture coaxed a grand slam out of Mark Herauf (3-5) in the first inning and added two two-run dingers by Chris Coleman in the fourth and fifth innings.

Danny Cook (4-5) led his team again as he picked up three RBIs. McLaren Lowe was also 4-5.

Sea Venture pounded out 26 hits in the victory.[[In-content Ad]]
