WEDNESDAY, SEP. 26: The Bermuda karting season will shift into high gear on Sunday.

That’s when the flag will drop for the 2012-13 racing schedule.

Scott Barnes, arguably Bermuda’s top karter, will be back to compete full-time after spending much of the last few seasons racing in the US.

“I’m trying to get my karts ready for Bermuda so I can have some seat time.

“I didn’t race the full season last year as I had just come back from living in the States.

“I did get some wins, but I wasn’t in the points mix as I only raced like three or four race days last year.”

He plans on competing in the 125 TAG and 125 Shifter Classes.

“There is some good competition in Bermuda, but I’m definitely looking to win races.”

Barnes last race was at Rock Island Grand Prix in Illinois.

“From what I had to work with I was pretty pleased.”

Barnes qualified 12th out of 23 in the 125 Class and started last in the Shifter Class after his engine cut out on him on his warm up lap.

Barnes did not let his starting positions deter him as he worked his way up to third in the 125s and finished 10th in the Shifters after he spun out trying to pass another kart into sixth.

“It was a bit of let down but when you start dead last like that, you have to get to the front fast. I tried to move up too fast.”

Barnes said he may race in Las Vegas in November at Super Nationals.
