FRIDAY, DECEMBER 2: The Rock Island motocross team has returned home after a great showing at the Mini O’s in Florida.
The six-strong squad picked up a string of high placed finishes in the international competition.
And club president, Derrick Seymour, said the racers were a credit to the club and their country.
He told the Sun: “The level of competition at the Mini O’s is amazing.
“Our guys did a fantastic job.
“I think they learned a lot too about what this sport is like at the highest level and that is great experience for the future.
“All of our racers showed they had the skill to compete at this level and I think the event was a memorable experience for all of them.”
Six motocross racers from the club including Zamair Darrell, Andre ‘AJ’ Durham, Chekari Gibbons, Brandon Renaud and Shaki Easton took part in the week long event.
One of the Bermudian success stories was Otis Ingham who battled his way to fifth in the +45 class finals.
The 45-year-old last took part in the Mini O’s when he was just 18.
He told the Sun: “It was a great experience to be out there again.
“I got myself into good shape before I went but the guys I came up against had a lot more track time than me in the run up to the competition.
“It’s a great competition to be a part of and I’m really grateful to my sponsor Foxy Trucking for helping me to get out there.
“I think all the guys on the team had a great time.
“It’s an incredible arena and a great atmosphere to be out on the track again.
“I was really pleased about how I got on — I did much better than I thought I would. I’ll definitely be back there next year.”
