Dr. Brown’s tenure as leader of Bermuda is viewed by many as a colourful one and his outgoing party was certainly big, bold and buoyant.
“Fantastic,” was how the Premier yesterday described his Farewell Gala Weekend.
While some PLP MPs were absent from the three-day event and others grumbled about the $500 ticket price, Dr. Brown was unfazed.
“This past weekend was the most fantastic send-off a departing politician could have wished for,” he said.
“From the hundreds who braved the inclement weather for Friday night’s beach party to the sold-out Gala on Saturday night, it was simply magnificent.” the Premier said.
“Regarding the MPs who didn’t make it, maybe they waited too long to buy tickets. After all, MPs are busy people.”
The Premier did not comment on his immediate plans on stepping down, but confirmed his departure as “the last week in October”.
The Farewell Gala Weekend started with a beach party at Snorkel Park on Friday night.
It was followed by a golf tournament at Port Royal Golf Course on Saturday and an evening gala at the Fairmont Southampton hotel.
Up to 550 guests attended the farewell celebration, which featured a performance from soul star Gladys Knight.
Other celebrities in attendance were Rocsi and Terrence J from U.S. music video show 106 & Park, TV personality Star Jones and American actress Lynn Whitfield.
On Sunday the Premier attended a church service at the First Church of God, Pembroke, before hosting a farewell dinner.
