A minute’s silence will be observed for slain powerboat racer Troy ‘Yankee’ Rawlins prior to the start of Sunday’s Rubis Around the Island Race.
The P Class pilot was gunned down this week at the Spinning Wheel nightclub on Court Street.
His is the seventh gun death of the year so far.
Brian Smith, commodore of the Bermuda Powerboat Association, said the loss of one of their members was a “tragedy”.
He added: “Bermuda Powerboat Association is very saddened with the loss of Troy ‘Yankee’ Rawlins, who was one of our racers and members. I wasn’t sure whether he was going to come out this year or not but he had his boat out just recently testing so it looked as though he was.
“The association is deeply saddened by this tragedy and on Sunday we will honour him with a minute of silence.”
Rawlins finished second in his respective class during last year’s Around the Island Race.
