THURSDAY, DEC. 1: The son of former Premier Alex Scott was today formally adopted as the PLP parliamentary candidate for Warwick South East.

Lawrence Scott will take over as candidate in his father’s old seat as Mr Scott retires from the House of Assembly after decades in politics.

Meanwhile, the Opposition OBA announced a further three candidates as a General Election draws closer.

Party leader Craig Cannonier announced that Donte Hunt, who won in St George’s South in 2007, is to move to Hamilton West, won for the then-UBP the same year by Wayne Furbert, who later crossed the floor to the governing PLP.

Mr Hunt said: “The OBA believes Bermuda needs to change if we are to overcome the challenges Bermuda faces.

“And it’s for this reason I have decided to answer the call of my party to move from Constituency four and
run in Hamilton West, Constituency six.”

He added: “I have spent the past four years representing and serving the great people of St George’s South. I have a real fondness for the times I spent with them. But the need to put the OBA into a position to win the Government is paramount and I belive and can help that with this move to  Constituency six.”

R Wayne Scott will contest the PLP-held Warwick North Central, where former Government Senator David Burch will take over as candidate from retiring MP Elvin James.

Former UBP Senator Suzann Roberts-Holshouser will take over as candidate in Mr Hunt’s current seat.

Ms Roberts-Holshouser said: “Bermuda needs a fresh start, a fresh team to deal with the problems we’ve been saddled with and I am proud to be part of a team that is dedicated to restoring the health, strength and spirit of our people and our island.”
