Players ready to help their team chase for the ISL title
Russell says he’s going to score the most goals
Robinson was the first player selected in the ISL's Superdraft held last Saturday night at CedarBridge Academy.
The Arsenal was the ISL's worst team in its inaugural season last summer, thus earning the right for the first pick in the draft.
Robinson said it "feels great" to be the first pick. "I didn't expect it, but I was hoping that it was me so it feels good."
He said last season is over with and he plans on helping the Arsenal "turn the league standings upside down.
Veteran defender Shannon Burgess was the first pick for the Royal.
"We have Meshach Wade as our coach and he's very knowledgeable about the game," Burgess said. He added that the core of Jelani Butterfield, Adrian Burrows and Adam Shaw, give them a good nucleus to challenge for the ISL title in 2008.
Last season he played for the Titans, but was put back into the draft pool after he wasn't sure on whether or not he was going to play this summer. "At the last minute I decided I was going to play. I had a few coaches talk to me and, from a leadership perspective; Meshach is going to help me. I'm looking forward to it."
Dennis Russell will be looking to bag double-digit goals after the Union made him its first selection.
Russell said he's looking to help coach Eugene Crockwell and his team-mates to the title by scoring "A lot more goals. I'm a star striker. I can't wait to start playing."
Russell didn't play last year and decided to play this summer because "everybody was talking about it so I thought about joining and turn it up."
He made a bold prediction about who was going to be the leading goal scorer - "I'm going to be number one."
Dandy Town's Brandon Minors will be kitting up for Andrew Bascome's Storm, who came up just shy in getting to the title game in 2008. He didn't play in the first year, but decided to give it a try this summer.
"I heard it was pretty exciting and it was a good league so I just wanted to be involved."
Minors played some indoor soccer while away in school in Alabama and he feels that experience could help propel the Storm to the title.
Hamilton Parish's Kaya Darrell is also playing in the ISL for the first time. Last year he was away in school in Georgia. He was selected by the league runner-up Knights in the second round.
Darrell said: "Hopefully I can be competitive with the rest of the players and hopefully I can be bring some inspiration to the team as well. Hopefully I can help make us win this year rather than be runners-up."
Devonshire Colts' Sean Perinchief was a mid-round pick of the defending champs Kings.
"This is the team I really wanted to play for. I can play goalkeeper or midfielder so I'm a versatile player - wherever they need me I can play," Perinchief said.[[In-content Ad]]
