Players gave an excellent account of themselves

Personally, I'm very pleased with the whole team. After working with them for two years I've seen an enormous improvement.

This year we were seeded fourth in both Boys and Girls Team championships, so reaching the finals and finishing second in both is even better than we expected. We came so close to winning the Boys Team Championship when it all came down to the very last match of the tournament. It couldn't have been any closer.

Guyana has an exceptionally strong girls team and were always going to win, but this year our girls gave them a good run around.

At Under-13 Emma Keane played very well and is developing into an excellent player.

In Under-15, Alex Marshall had a good tournament overall. She won a very important match in the semi-finals and I was pleased with her performance.

In Girls Under-17, Rachel and Kelly Barnes handled the extra pace well, particularly against the top Caribbean girls, and they both have great potential.

All of our girls showed how far they've come since they started training for these championships. They have all improved and have all benefitted from playing at this level.

Our boys team also played exceptionally well. At Under-13, Beckett Simmons played some great matches, and D'Vario Thompson did very well in singles. We have lots of young lads, including the Knights' brothers, showing they have talent, and with a little more experience under their belts they will be making it into the team.

Under-15s

In Under-15, Noah Browne is extremely strong. He would have won the individual title with no problem except for the fact that in the final he had to play the young lad who was voted as the Best Player in the Championships - Kevin Hannaway of OECS. Noah has beaten him before, and he has all the talent needed to be the best in the Caribbean in his age group.

Right now we have a group of extremely talented boys in the Under-17 age group. Kristian Muldoon was playing #1 in the Team Championships and he's improved by leaps and bounds. He is being challenged for the top spot by Micah Franklin, who really came into his own in these championships, so much so that we played him as our #2 player in the Under-19 age group. And we have Chris Stout who also won one of his team matches playing in the older age group when Micah was injured. When you have a group challenging each other for the top spot they push each other and everybody improves so much quicker. Korin Knights is close behind this group and he's knocking on the door.

We have been very fortunate to have a player with the skills of team captain, Robbie Maycock leading and inspiring our juniors. He plays the ball so well and can play at a very fast pace. He's obviously had excellent coaching and is very talented. It was good to see him win his fourth individual title in his last year as a junior. Micah is another one who can play at that very fast pace. He's mentally very strong and as he develops physically he has the potential to be a really great player.

Overall, I'm delighted with all of our players. Playing at the international level is always stimulating to anyone involved in sports. I think that the future of junior squash in Bermuda is in good hands.

I have to say though that the Guyana girls team was exceptional. They have a group of wonderfully talented girls who train very hard to get to the top in Guyana. I would like to see us build up our own girls team to the standard where we can be competitive against Guyana. That's going to take a little time, but if we continue to improve, and if we continue to attract talented youngsters into our squash programme, I believe we can strive to be the best in the Caribbean.[[In-content Ad]]
